UPDATE 1/22/21
The battle was scheduled to start at 8pm ET. (Actually it was scheduled to start sometime last year and then again less than two weeks ago but that’s not the point.) We all know when it comes to music, that’s more of a suggestion and not the real time the headliners will perform. With that in mind, we weren’t expecting to wait nearly an hour for ANYONE to take the “stage”.
Fans all over social media were reacting to how long it took for Ashanti and Keyshia Cole to grace us with their presence. The comments on the VerzuzTV IG Live were LIT: “What time they coming? Never o’clock?” and “I feel like I aged 2 years since I clicked live.” and then the genius in the room had to say, “Y’all know black women be late.”
It appeared the reason for the delay was Keyshia Cole’s shaky wifi. Ashanti’s view was clean and crisp. However, as time went on and her picture become clearer it was obvious something else was afoot. By the way, I’ll save you a few minutes and say we never learned why she was late.
Ashanti finally sat down in her Princess of R&B chair at 8:55. She said she was holding it down for Keyshia Cole and that we, the fans, just needed to be patient. This mockery of our time went on for another 23 minutes. Yes, I kept track. Keyshia Cole finally sat down at 9:18 with full attitude and no explanation.
This is how it went down:
ROUND 1
“I Changed My Mind”- Keyshia Cole

UPDATE 1/13/2021
Soooo that battle we told you about last week that was TBD, is now on.
Get ready! Ashanti v Keyshia Cole is going down Thursday, January 21, at 8pm.
You tired of the back and forth? Aren’t we all. Well, the VERZUZ creators say this is the last time they’ll reschedule.
The IG post says the battle is happening rain, sleet, hail or snow. But one fan so poignantly pointed out, the weather was never the problem. Other fans basically said they won’t attend due to the inconsistency.
We’ll be there. TBH what else are we doing during a pandemic on a Thursday night? Nothing.
See you next Thursday!

I'm going to have to respectfully decline your invitation. Due to the inconsistency in your prior scheduled dates, I now have a prior engagement. I will be cutting the grass on my lawn with scissors. Please email me the highlights.
Dictated But Not Read,

UPDATE 1/8/2021
Sorry fans! It looks like we’ll be waiting a little while longer for the battle between Ashanti and Keyshia Cole. Verzuz announced today that the event is “TBD”. The announcement came on the Verzuz social media channels. It seems this is all based on the Chaos at the Capitol and the rise in COVID-19 numbers.
The battle was previously scheduled for last month but just before they were about to meet up, Ashanti tested positive for COVID-19. The event was then rescheduled for Saturday, January 9. Ashanti and her family are doing well now but COVID is still rearing it’s ugly head.
The Verzuz announcement says: “This has been an emotional week. In addition, as COVID-19 numbers continue to increase, safety is a top priority for us. As much as we enjoy having everyone together in the same room, to protect the artists and everyone who works with us in putting the shows together, we’ll be going back to separate locations for a bit. We’re excited for the next few events, and look forward to getting back to the show in the coming weeks.”

Based on the comments following the announcement, fans felt like they should’ve been kept separate in the first place.
What? All to show some baby shower chairs and to sell ciroc

It keeps getting better!
Ashanti and Keyshia Cole will sit in the Verzuz battle chairs this weekend. The two artists were announced as the next contenders late Friday. Based on the comments on the Verzuztv IG, there’s definitely no consensus about who will take home bragging rights after they go head-to-head Saturday.
However, everyone can agree on this: The songs from Ashanti and Keyshia Cole will leave everyone in their feelings. (See the Cardi B tweet below)
