PHOENIX - Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Jameis Winston reached a settlement with an Arizona Uber driver who filed a sexual battery lawsuit against him, the Tampa Bay Times reported Tuesday.
The agreement was reached in U.S. District Court for the District of Arizona, WTSP reported. The driver’s attorney, John Clune, filed the documents Monday, and the they stated the “parties are in the process of finalizing a settlement agreement" and that it would be completed in about 10 days.
The terms of the settlement were not listed, the Times reported.
The settlement comes 2½ years after the driver -- identified in court documents as “Kate P.” -- gave Winston a ride in Scottsdale, Arizona, in March 2016, ESPN reported. The woman claimed that Winston groped her while waiting in the drive-thru of Los Betos restaurant, then “became belligerent,” swore and used racial slurs, the Times reported.
The woman filed a civil suit against Winston in September and was seeking more than $75,000 in damages, the newspaper reported.
Winston confirmed in June that he was suspended from the National Football League team’s first three games of the 2018 season, WTSP reported.
The suspension cost Winston $124,411 in salary, ESPN reported.
Winston was the No. 1 overall pick in the 2015 NFL draft. He has a $20.1 million club option for next season that is only guaranteed against injury, the Times reported.
