In 2014, more than $600,000 went missing from the megachurch, but last month a portion of the cash and checks was found when a plumber removed a loose toilet from a bathroom wall in the church during a renovation project, KTRK reported.

The plumber, who identified himself as Justin, shared the story of the find on a radio show last week, KHOU reported.

Police did not say how much money was recovered, only that it was a large amount.

Church officials, through Crime Stoppers, had offered a $20,000 reward in 2014 for information related to the alleged theft. Two years later, the church decided to donate what would have been the reward to Crime Stoppers of Houston.

But on Friday, Crime Stoppers CEO Rania Mankarious suggested giving the $20,000 donation as a gift to the plumber who cracked the case. On Tuesday, the approval was granted, KTRK reported.

The church has not commented on the money’s discovery, other than to say that it is working with police on the investigation.

At the time of the alleged theft, the church said that the money was fully insured and was working with insurance companies to recoup the loss, KTRK reported.
