Juan Estela started having breathing problems Dec. 25 and was taken to a hospital, WFSB reported. An evaluation indicated he had terminal cancer. His last wish was to walk his daughter down the aisle for her wedding in May.

As his health rapidly declined, Sara Estela and Michael Krystek exchanged vows Saturday.

“We wanted something fairytale-like, well I wanted something fairytale-like,” Sara said. “Just having him there is what mattered to me.”

Juan Estela died Monday.

“It was our privilege to care for Juan and to help him attend his daughter’s wedding,” said Amanda Falcone with Middlesex Hospital. “Our heart’s go out to Juan’s family, and we wish the newly married couple all the best.”

Sara Estela plans to have another wedding over the summer as well as a celebration of life for her father.

The family started a crowd sourced funding account to help pay for funeral costs.
