Car drives through bedroom, mother doesn’t feel safe living there but can’t get out of lease

Jacksonville, FL. — A Jacksonville mother says she doesn’t feel safe staying in her own home after a car crashed right into her bedroom.

It happened Saturday morning around 4a.m off Lem Turner on Reid Ave and the mother says this isn’t the first time this has happened and could’ve predicted it at this point.

Back in December, Erica Alexander says a car went off Lem Turner and hit the fence in her back yard.

She sent an email around the same time and to this day, says the property managers have done nothing about it.

4 months later and this time car didn’t stop at the fence.

“Where my window frames are...it was a wall,” she said. “This doesn’t even look like the same house I moved into a year ago.”

The walls are buckled and boarders are helping it stay up. Feeling unsafe, Alexander says now the property managers tell her she can’t get out of the lease.

“They say I can’t get out of my lease for any reason and that it’s not their fault someone came crashing through the gate,” Alexander said.

She says if the gate were fixed, it wouldn’t have happened in the first place.

Action News Jax reached out to the property managers for comment, they acknowledged our call and said they would get back to us, but we’re still waiting.

For now, Alexander and her family are staying out of the house.

“It’s tough looking at this right now because I keep thinking about...had I been home and this car came crashing through and I wouldn’t have surved, what would they have told my kids?” Alexander said.

Action News Jax law and safety expert Dale Carson said if there were any problems in the past, she should have been notified and what she needs to do is fina and call a lawyer who will send a letter to the property owner explaining her concerns and safety issues.
