If the kids haven’t seen “Cinderella” played by a woman of color, now’s the chance.
Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella is premiering on Disney+ next week. The date is Friday, February 12, 2021.
Before the announcement was made on ABC’s The View, Brandy retweeted a tease that something big was about to be announced. Whoopi Goldberg says this is something the fans have been wanting. This multi-cultural version of “Cinderella” is 24 years old.
“I’m so excited that Cinderella has a home now at Disney+,” says Brandy. She goes on to say she believes the film is something that can “inspire a whole new generation.”
Whoopi Goldberg says she wants Disney to take it a step further. She says she wants ABC’s parent company to re-release the classic “Cinderella” watch. It wouldn’t be the same watch you may have seen in the past. She says she wants the watch to feature, Brandy.
Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella features women of color in major roles. Brandy is Cinderella, Whitney Houston plays her Fairy Godmother and Whoopi Goldberg is the Queen. The late actress Natalie Deselle Reid also appeared in the made for TV movie.
By the way, you’ll be seeing even more of Brandy. She also just announced she’s the new battle adviser on Team Legend on, The Voice.
