Remember in the not-so-distant past when one of the biggest stories was about a chicken sandwich? This was pre-pandemic so you may have to think a little harder. You with me now? Ok good!
The chicken sandwich wars are making a comeback. Well maybe! Taco Bell has announced a chicken sandwich taco. The Crispy Chicken Sandwich Taco will be tested starting next month in Nashville, TN and Charlotte, NC.
According to multiple news outlets, the Crispy Chicken Sandwich Taco features all-white chicken that has been marinated in jalapeno buttermilk and seasoned with Mexican spices. After that it’s battered with crunchy tortilla chips and then fried. What about the bread? Well it’s a “puffy bread shaped like a taco.” When you get it through the drive-thru window it’ll be topped with a chipotle sauce. If you like it hot, you can get the spicy version which is topped with jalapenos.
For some reason, this sounds good to me. Since this is just a test-run in only 2 markets, we’ll have to wait until Taco Bell takes the Crispy Chicken Sandwich Taco nationwide later this year.
You think it can compete against KFC’s donut chicken sandwich? (BTW Julie and Clarence tried that one and the podcast review is below. Listen below.) If it happens, it’ll be the comic relief we need during this tough time.
