40th Annual MLK Holiday Grand Parade Route

JACKSONVILLE MLK CELEBRATION EVENTS:

  • The Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr Memorial Foundation cordially invites you to the MLK Holiday Grand Parade, Downtown Jacksonville, Monday, Jan 18, 2021, starting at 11am. Judge Rhonda Peoples Waters will be the Grand Marshal of the 40th Annual MLK Holiday Grand Parade

The parade will start on Waters St. and then onto Laura. From there it’ll go left onto Adams street before ending at the intersection of Lee and Bay Streets. Expect the event to last about 2 hours through the 1.5 mile route. See the route below:

MUSEUM EVENTS:

The Cummer Museum of Art and Gardens say it will be offering free admission on January 18, 2021, and also offer special programming to mark the day.

“We invite everyone to come take a moment, both on our campus and virtually, to experience art, culture and community as we honor Dr. King’s life and legacy and his tremendous impact as a humanitarian and civil rights leader,” said Dr. Andrea Barnwell Brownlee, the George W. and Kathleen I. Gibbs Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Museum.

If you want to go, you will need to wear a mask and reserve a ticket in advance due to COVID-19 capacity restrictions. Registration is required for virtual events as well. You can get more details HERE.

Meanwhile, the Museum of Science & History (MOSH) which is typically closed on Mondays, has announced it will be open from 10 AM-5 PM on January 18th.

The museum says it will be fully open, including its newest exhibition, Toytopia. Visitors are required to wear a mask and if you want to go, you’re urged to buy tickets online due to capacity limits.

ST. AUGUSTINE MLK CELEBRATION EVENTS:

The normal breakfast and march in the City of St. Augustine will not be held this year. According to Visit St. Augustine, the 36th Commemorative Celebration honoring Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. program will go on at the Lewis Auditorium but seating is limited. Tickets are available on a first come, first serve basis. The city says the entire program will be available online. Click here for tickets.

When: Monday, January 18, 2021 at 9:30 a.m.

Where: Lewis Auditorium, 14 Grenada Street, St. Augustine and online.

“Dr. Benjamin F. Chavis, Jr, will present a discussion on the theme ‘Our Lives Begin to End the Day We Become Silent about things that Matter.’” Dr. Chavis will be followed by Reverend Kevin James of the United Methodist Church of Palm Coast for what is traditionally the speech in the Plaza. As there is no march this year, Reverend James will also speak at Lewis Auditorium. Individuals are encouraged to visit the Plaza during the day and pause for reflection or silent prayer.
