Gretchen Kernbach is a Reporter for Action News Jax. She joined the team in June 2021.
The Virginia native previously worked for WJHG/WECP in Panama City, Florida. There, she was a Weekend Anchor/Multimedia Journalist. In Panama City, Gretchen covered the aftermath of Hurricane Michael and traveled to Lake Charles, Louisiana to cover the aftermath of Hurricane Laura. Gretchen also covered local crime, community problems, school districts, the 2020 election and more.
Gretchen has been honored with three Florida Association of Broadcast Journalists Awards. She won a 2019 first place award in the Education Category for her story on homeless students after Hurricane Michael. She also won the 2020 first place award for Best Reporter in a small market, as well as a 2020 first place award in the Hard News Series/Franchise for her story on the evolution of spring break in Panama City Beach.
She is a proud Virginia Tech graduate. Prior to working in Florida, Gretchen worked part-time as an Associate Producer/Multimedia Journalist at WDBJ in Roanoke, Virginia. She also interned for WJLA, in Washington D.C.
