Police: Ex-postal employee opened mail to sell items for crack

An intoxicated former U.S. Postal Service employee broke into a branch office in Florida, opening packages inside and hoping to sell items for crack, police said.

Francis Keller, 56, faces one count of burglary and remains at the Palm Beach County Jail on $3,000 bail, according to court records.

On Friday night, police were called to a Boynton Beach postal service branch office, located across the street from the police station, to investigate a possible burglary. Once inside, they found Keller “extremely intoxicated” and opening packages, police said. According to police, he told them he planned to sell any expensive items he found for crack.

Keller said he worked for the post office for 30 years and was able to get in using an old security code, police said.
