Stacey Dash: #OscarsSoWhite

The boycott of #OscarsSoWhite was strong. If you looked at Twitter you saw a great number of tweets saying the focus for people of color would be on Flint. Hollywood names like Ava DuVernay and artists like Ledisi and Jazmine Sullivan all supported the water plagued city.

However, the thing that made the Oscars so unwatchable is also what made it so alluring.

How would the 88th Academy Awards handle #OscarsSoWhite?

The jaw-dropping moment wasn't the absolutely well-done monologue by Host Chris Rock where he went in on Jada Pinkett Smith or even when he said Hollywood really is racist... "Sorority racist".

It was in fact when Stacey Dash came out onto the stage and wished everyone a happy Black History Month. Shocking, right? Are you thinking of the wide-eyed emoji? Makes sense! But hold on....this was after she was introduced as the new "Director of Minority Outreach". I'm sure this was a joke but, why? Just...why?

The Twittersphere blew up in what I can only describe as outrage, disappointment and pleasure all wrapped up into one.

Remember Stacey Dash is the same woman that said we don't need a black history month. When Stacey Dash showed up on the screen the voices in my head went to the interview with Gabrielle Union shortly after Dash's now infamous interview on Fox News.   "Who is Stacey Dash?"

Stacey Dash responded to her Oscars appearance like this.
